My wife was admitted to Pilgrims Hospice for, what we had to accept, end of life care. She had bravely battled with recurring cancer for more than five years. All that I wanted for my precious girl was for her pain to be taken away. Dr. Ambler took me quietly aside and explained that my wife had two great pains. One of which she assured me they would take away. The other, and she put her hand over her heart, was that she was desperately worried how I would cope, alone. I may have expected that concern from my darling wife, but had not been aware of its extent. For the following days I assured my girl, during my time with her, that all was well with me and everything at home was good. Plans were in place to take care of the things that mattered most to her. I feel certain that Dr. Pia's comments to me helped to make my beloved's death as peaceful as it was possible to be.

I was a little concerned about seeing a Hospice Consultant but Dr Amsler put me at ease as soon as she introduced herself. She listened to everything I had to say, including what I was worried about, and then went on to suggest ways I could help myself. She also went through my medication, which is quite substantial, and suggested alternatives and advised she would be contacting the Dr.s who are involved in my care. All in all my appointment was very productive - I am now waiting for some referrals, and changes to my medication - all thanks to Dr Amsler.
